McLaren P1 Engine Note, Instrument Cluster Previewed Previous to Geneva

With the McLaren P1′s official debut on the Geneva Motor Show lower than a month away, McLaren has yet again released additional information at the forthcoming supercar. The British company showed off the P1′s instrument cluster, revealed details on its “Race” mode, and released a quick video that includes the sound of the car’s engine.

The brand new photos reveal that the McLaren P1 will use a completely digital instrument cluster that may display the car’s current gear, speed, and other information like coolant or oil temperature. When Race mode is chosen, the highest of the display shows green, red, and blue dots meant to emulate the shift lights on Formula 1-car steering wheels.

Selecting Race mode also automatically adjusts the “active” rear wing, extending it and moving it to an angle designed to enhance aerodynamic downforce. McLaren says it’ll reveal additional info about Race mode at a later date, but we will likely expect the choice to also increase transmission shift speed and to make the suspension firmer or more responsive.

Finally, a short lived teaser video not just shows the car’s digital instrument cluster, but in addition includes the McLaren P1′s exhaust note and a short shot of the automobile on a race track. We predict the supercar soundtrack to come back from a three.8-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine, possibly with up to 700 hp.

An included photo of the McLaren P1 in profile looks identical to our earlier spy photos (and McLaren’s official teasers) of the automobile — and, indeed, like the concept car shown eventually year’s Paris Motor Show. Hardly surprising, for the reason that McLaren P1 program director Paul Mackenzie previously told us the Paris concept car was “95 percent of what the production car will seem like.”

McLaren has its goal is “to produce the precise driver’s car on the earth on road and track.” The production car is predicted to debut publicly in March on the Geneva Motor Show, and ultimately go on sale on the end of this summer.
